Research On The Role Of Social Worker In Project Operation

In the process of rapid economic development, social services obviously lagged behind the pace of economic development. Social work as a kind of important way of realizing the social services, receiving more and more social attention. Social work as a scientific work to help people, uses the project way has become one of the important ways to carry out the work. Through the implementation of project operation, specialized service are provided by social workers to the service objects. Bringing the project way into social work is very important to the entire social work. In the operation of social work program the core is the social workers, they are responsible for the project planning, management and operation. But in the process of concrete practice, there are a lot of questions about the role of social workers, including unclear definition of roles, role confusion and role strain, etc. Many social workers do not clearly know what role in the project they should take, so it needs our attention and study. After reviewing literature, we found that in-depth study on social workers’role in the project are not sufficient, so this article hope to study more on it according to the practice experience and relevant researches.This article is a qualitative study, and the research objects are mainly social workers from different institutions and different programs. Through the way of interview, gets the specific information about social workers’roles in projects, summarizes these information and classifies the roles that social workers take in projects. The article found that the main roles of social workers include the general roles as project analysts, planners, executors. The secondary roles as propagandist, community administration staff,.resources coordinators, initiators, and enablers.The major factors that influence social worker’s role include the lack of government policy and resources support; lack of well operating environment; deficiency of staff, supervision, training and the roles’ standardization from the agencies. Besides, in the community level there are several limitations of resources and job content, etc.; and due to the lack of professional knowledge and ability, social workers do not have enough confidence in their career development; and the service objects know little about the projects, so they psychologically reject and doubt with the projects, and usually put forward requirements beyond the social workers’ responsibilities.Through problems reflected above, this article finds factors that affect the normal operation of social worker’s role, and the influence of these factors are common in many projects. Role of social workers in current mode of operation is not the best, but it can be improved and standardized through the efforts of the parties concerned. It needs the participation of the government, institutions, communities, social workers and service objects to realize the aim of optimize the roles of social workers. Hope these standardized ways can play a positive effect on promoting social worker’s role in projects and also help social workers find their right positions in projects and speed up the healthy and orderly development of social work project.
