With the development of globalization, information and networking, the world has become a world of communication in which people constantly in direct or indirect contact, it affects and changes the way of human life and plays an important role in the development of human. Communication problem has become a hot issue in the world since 20 th Century. In the current context, communication plays an important role in the universities’ ideological and political education. As an effective method of implementing the universities’ ideological and political education, communication is useful to enhance the subjectivity of the educated, strengthen the dissemination of the educational information, promote the equal communication between teachers and students and enhance the effectiveness of education.The effectiveness of the universities’ ideological and political education is an important issue which the party and the country have been concerned about. In the new era, innovating ideas and methods to enhance the effectiveness and pertinence of the universities’ ideological and political education, is the clear requirement which the party and the state put forward to the work of the universities’ ideological and political education. However, there are many reasons for the low and weak efficiency of the universities’ ideological and political education. Based on the background of communication, this paper makes an investigation into the problem from the view of communication and points out that the low efficiency of the communicative function is the crux of the weak effect. From the practical problems, the paper based on the communicative theory as the theory fulcrum, the communication as a clue, analyzes the role of communication in the universities’ ideological and political education, the existing problems and their causes. On this basis, the paper proposes the realization path of giving full play to the communicative function in the universities’ ideological and political education. The paper divides into five parts:The first part, the background and significance of the research are presented. The basic ideas and methods of the research are put forward on the basis of the investigation of the current domestic and foreign research status, and points out the innovation and inadequacies of the study.The second part, on the basis of analyzing the connotation and characteristics of communication, as well as the meaning, nature, characteristics and purpose of the universities’ ideological and political education, explains the relationship between the two.The third part, explaining the Marx’s communication theory, Habermas’ communication theory, the subject of ideological and political education, provides a theoretical basis for this research.The fourth part, based on the above-mentioned theory, analyzes the role of communication in the universities’ ideological and political education, and discusses the current problems and causes of the lack of communication in the universities’ ideological and political education. The rational cognition of the problems and the reasons lays the foundation for the discussion on the path of playing a role in communication of the universities’ ideological and political education.The fifth part, based on the theory of the third part, relied on the current situation of the communicative function of the fourth part, proposes the path of giving full play to the communicative function in the universities’ ideological and political education from the principle, way of thinking, the relationship between teachers and students, the method,the environment and other aspects.
