The Book of Songs is the origin of Chinese national culture, as well as the foundation for us to learn the traditional culture and carry forward our national spirit. Almost all of the current versions of our high school Chinese textbooks have selected articles from The Book of Songs. However, related study on textbook selecting and compiling, annotation and teaching of The Book of Songs is not yet complete. The Book of Songs is the first collection of poetry in China, and it’s also the starting point of Chinese realistic literature. It is an important part of Chinese splendid traditional culture. The study of selecting and compiling, annotation and teaching of The Book of Songs in high school textbooks of PEP edition is conducive for The Book of Songs to play its role of traditional poetics in Chinese language teaching. The author has reviewed the high school textbooks of PEP edition since liberation, and sorted out the general historical development situation of selecting texts of The Book of Songs in high school textbooks of PEP edition. In view of the problems existing in text annotation for articles from The Book of Songs, it’s proposed that a theme paraphrasing system for the selected articles from The Book of Songs should be established as teaching reference, and a annotation reference system for topics and phrases of the selected articles from The Book of Songs should be constructed. The study also involves teaching task processing and other teaching-aid means to further optimize the reading aid system of The Book of Songs in our teaching materials.
