| In recent years, STEM education has made a trend in China. Many schools and educational institutions are beginning to focus on teaching science, technology, Engineering and Mathematics. However, in this process, few people pay attention to girls’ learning. STEM education belongs to science and engineering whether be separated or combined. These subjects are which usually girls not good at. So how to make girls involved in STEM education more enthusiastic? How to make girls study better in STEM education? This is what this article mainly concerns.The research bases on a 3D print curriculum in an elementary school in Shanghai Xuhui District. According to the survey, the reason why girls don’t do as well at STEM as boys may be: Physical reasons, Low self-evaluation, Gender stereotype, Irrelevance of girls’ life, Lack of models. The corresponding teaching strategies are formulated: to understand gender differences correctly, to encourage students to guess and to trial and error, to set up a female role model, to select content related to daily life, decomposition and grouping. Research shows that these strategies have a certain effect on girls. But some habitual thoughts and misconceptions can not be changed easily. And to help girls learn science lies not only teachers’ efforts, but also parents’ change of their minds, as well as the power of government, social groups and the public. |
