With the advent of the era of knowledge economy, talents have become the key element of the rapid development of our society. Education, as the most important way of cultivation for personal growth, is playing a more and more important role. In recent years, individuals and families begin to share more educational cost, which has become the important supplement of the public educational finance, and with the substantial increase of the family expenditures for education, the influence factors behind it has attracted the widespread attention. On the basis of previous theoretical and empirical research, this study find their influence and importance for the perspective of family economy and cultural capital, and propose the policy in favor of promoting the virtuous cycle of the children’s education expenditure from the perspective of the government, society, schools and individuals, which is of great theoretical and realistic significance for the research of the family education expenditure.This study is based on the logic of "what", "why" and "how",and its main foothold is:What is the current status of the urban children’s education expenditure in Shanghai? What problem is still there and the reasons behind it? What is the relationship between children’s education expenditure with family economic and cultural capital? How to put forward the effective policy from the perspective of macro management and micro practice?This study adopts the method of literature research and field survey statistics, and the questionnaire and interview outline are designed according to the "economic capital" and "cultural capital". After on-the-spot investigation of 719 urban households in Shanghai and in-depth interviews with a number of parents with different background, we understand the current situation and existing problems of the education expenditure of urban households in Shanghai, as well as statistics analysis of data of the education expenditure level, the education expenditure structure and the family economic and cultural capital are done to further explore the influence factors of family education expenditure.Through the systematic analysis, the conclusion is:Firstly, among the influence factors of the family education expenditure level, it’s the household annual disposable income, the parents’ level of education, parents’ types of profession, parenting style and family provided cultural products that have a significant impact to the level of family education expenditure. Secondly, as the problem of education unfairness is becoming more and more obvious, children’s education expenditure is greatly influenced by the social stratification and differences between urban and rural areas, different levels of families in different areas have shown a significant difference. Thirdly, the selected education expenditure is high, some phenomenon such as unreasonable structure of family education expenditure and high selective education expenditure are existing in the family education expenditure. Aiming to solve the above problems, this paper puts forward relevant policy suggestions from different perspectives.
