Worldwide, women’s volleyball team is now becoming more advanced and technical skills like in men’s volleyball, full-time, three-dimensional attack has been widely used. In official matches, attack and defense are switched efficiently and the coherent and fast changing tactics, blocks are improving massively and the athletics levels are highly increasing. In the games of volleyball, the setter position has been known to be the "heart of the court" and the "soul of the team", this leads to a higher demand and expectations for a setter’s overall ability. During offensive plays, a setter’s technical ability, tactics realization and team leading ability are the key that binds the team together. Me, being the former setter for the Chinese volleyball team, I have experienced the significance and importance of a setter being on court, also acknowledged the importance of studying the effects of a setter’s passes. How to effectively organize the offense and dodge the opposition’s blockers during games it is every setter’s target to work towards, it is also significant for how people judge and evaluate the ability of a setter. The report has carefully selected 8 world’s top women’s national volleyball teams to participate in the international volleyball sports events’videos from 2014 to 2015, using it to observe and calculate the distribution of balls from a setter and the offensive players’frequency of being blocked. The conclusion was that a setter does not only need to have accurate and stable passes, but to built beyond those points and work on the visibility, attacks and flexibility in order to break through the blocks from the opposing team and improve the success rate of the offensive spikes. The main conclusion of the report is:1. If you want to become one of the best setters in the world, normally above the age of 25, you need to be highly experienced. Due to the high physiological requirements from this position, there is a great importance of importing the training concepts and methods from other foreign countries to reasonably control the physical exercises, minimize the rate of injuries, and extend the life expectancies and to promote better-improved setters in the future. Putting the body conditions and overall manner as the key, then through additional specific trainings to further improve the abilities of the setter’s observation skills, improved setting actions, personal blocking abilities and team tactical offensive flexibility, in order to have effective chances of point gaining.2. When the world’s best women volleyball setters organize attacks, the more flexible and the more options given by the attackers means a highly increased chance of scoring, combining with the high speed from the set to avoid the blockers. Also including the second touch offenses, causing a lack of defensive abilities for the opposing teams. Apart from position 2 and 4’s powerful attacks, now focusing more on quick attacks and the speed in changing from attacking to defensing.3. The overall passing distribution for position 4 is below 40%, position 2 maintains at around 30%, quick attacks reaches 20% and back row attacks are more than 10%. Also second touch attacks, position 4 and 2’s powerful attacks are controlled below 70% when feturning offensive balls, back row attack at 10%, and quick attacks over 20%. During one match there is 5% when the net is free with no blockers, one-on-one at 25% and above, and according to different style of tactics the comparison differs.
