Objective:To investigate the status of personality traits and professional identity of undergraduate nurses among six universities in Shandong province; to analyze the relationship between demographic data, personality character and professional identity; to explore the influencing factors of professional identity of undergraduate nurses in order to enhance the professional identity of nursing graduates and put forward specific proposals for the further nursing educators and nursing managers.MethodsCross-sectional descriptive study was conducted. Investigate 300 undergraduate nurses from 6 universities in Shandong province using the demography questionnaire, Sixteen Personality Factor questionnaire (16PF) and professional identity scale. The objects were recruited by multi-stage sampling method. EpiData 3.02 software was used to input data and SPSS 19.0 statistical software was used to process and analyze data, including descriptive analysis,t test/analysis of variance, spearman correlation analysis, multiple linear regression analysis.Results1. A total of 300 study questionnaires were distributed and 300 questionnaires were collected, the number of valid questionnaire was 294, and the effective rate was 98%;2. The average score of professional identity of undergraduate nurses was 3.78±0.744, at the middle level.3. The highest score of personality character is emotional stability (7.46±1.653), the lowest score is the vigilance (3.4±1.522)4. There were significant differences in the mean score and some dimensions of professional identity and personality character of undergraduate nurses in terms of gender, location, the number of child (P<0.05).5. The professional identity is relate to Sixteen Personality Factor (P<0.05)。6. Multiple regression analysis showed that family income, emotional stability, Liveliness, abstractedness, tension have effect on professional identity of undergraduate nurses, a total of five variables, combined explained 18.3% of the dependent variable.Conclusion1. Most undergraduates nurses were emotional stability and had good psychological condition, strong creativity, good adaptability, they conform to the nursing profession2. The overall professional identity of undergraduate nurses was at a middle level. The educators and the nurse managers should take adequate measures to improve the professional identity of undergraduate nurses.3. The professional identity is related to personality character, and the emotional stability, Liveliness, abstractedness, tension were the predictors of professional identity. These characters should be paid more attention by managers to culture.
