In the 1980s, heroin, as the traditional drug, became prevalent in China; at the beginning of this century, methamphetamine, the new-type drug, was epidemic among young people. Facing with the problem of the drugs, many scholars began to pay attention to the causes of drug abuse. Recent data shows that the number of female methamphetamine abusers presents the rising trend. The national researches on the reasons of the female drug abuse are still rare. Therefore, this study aims to investigate the causes of female drug abuse by using the method of grounded theory. From previous research, the study focused on drug use behavior of two aspects, one is characterizing groups of drug users, for example, more male than female, younger, less educated, no steady employment, etc. Recently, the number of female drug-abuser rises rapidly, which attracted the attention of some scholars. In addition to group characteristics, causes of drug-abuse researches became the focus of many studies. From the microscopic views, the behaviors of drug abuse mainly due to curiousness, friends inducement, spiritual emptiness, treating an illness, weight loss and other reasons caused. From mesoscopic and macroscopic perspective, the impact factors are the interaction between family, culture and society. Such as poor family upbringing, the drug sub-culture, social institution.Based on grounded theory, with semi-structured interviews, the research selected 35 female drug abstainers to investigate. According to the qualitative datas, I compared to female heroin and methamphetamine addicts to find the similarities and differences between their cognition, attitude and social support, as well as the influence of the three factors on female drug abuse. The study found female methamphetamine abusers universally believed that the drug they used was" not addicted " "no harm " and" can be controlled". Many people think that it also could cure some disease, lose weight and so on. Meanwhile, the number of female abusers admitted taking methamphetamine would lead to hallucinations.Female heroin addicts also suggested that the drug can relieve pain, cure some disease, but almost all heroin addicts admitted heroin was addictive and withdrawal was quite difficult. In the respect of attitudes toward drugs, a number of its abusers thought methamphetamine using was actually relatively common phenomenon. Although many women know the dangers of methamphetamine addicts, because of the belief in good luck, they chose to continue using. Many heroin and methampheta-mine abusers served drugs as effective medicine to ease their pain:once spiritual emptiness, bad mood or suffer huge pressure, they would take drug. At the same time, the drug subculture got a lot of drug-users’ agreement. In their opinion, drug addiction had become a social means. Female heroin and methamphetamine abusers did not present significant differences. In general, female drug-abusers taken the attitude of "neither agree nor take away" toward their drug-users groups. On the respect of social supports, family was a major source of two groups. Supports from the police were mainly reflected in the adaptation of the organizational internal environment. Universally, female drug-users were lacked of the supports from friends. Students in addiction treatment center were basically not provide any supports. Overall, supports of female drug-users were more simplex. Therefore, Deviation in their cognition and attitude, not far away from the drug-users groups, as well as lack of social supports might be the influencing factors of female drug abuse.According to these findings, the article argues that drug prevention propaganda is insufficient, under the influence of user-groups and drug subculture is the dominating causes of female drug abuse. Furthermore, the study found that lack of a sense of accomplishment and the belief in good luck were potential causes of female drug abuse. Therefore, this paper try to put forward some intervention measures for social work.
