Recently, the number of female drug users are rising,the high relapse rate hasbecome the emphasis and difficulty of rehabilitation work. Female drug abstainershave to face more social pressure than male. The levels of female drug abstainers’social support and self-esteem are related to relapse rate, but significantly lower thannormal group. This research based on existing research, selected204female drugabstainers in shanghai female drug rehabilitation center as sample to questionnairesurvey by using Social Support Rating Scale and The self-Esteem Scale, and got204valid questionnaires. This research investigated the condition of female drugabstainers’ social support and self-esteem by data analysis through SPSS16.0, andgot the following conclusion:(1) The average total score of Social Support Rating Scale for female drugabstainers was35.02±3.86, compared to the total score of normal group’s42.33±6.18. The level of female drug abstainers’ social support was significantly lower thannormal group, P<0.01. And the average scores of subjective support, objectivesupport and support availability which were the three dimensionality of socialsupport, were also significantly lower than normal group.(2) The average scores of The self-Esteem Scale for female drug abstainers was 22.28±3.86, and the scores of normal group was27.94±3.58. The level of female drugabstainers’ self-esteem was significantly lower than normal group.(3) Female drug abstainers’ level of social support and self-esteem were relatedby correlation coefficient of0.48. They both related to successful rehabilitationconfidence by correlation coefficient of0.43and0.45.This research selected20subjects whose social support and self-esteem werelowest by data analysis, and divided them into two groups by random: experimentalgroup10subject and comparison group10subject. On intervention implementationstage, implemented series group counseling to the experimental group while none tothe comparison group. After intervention, retested the both group by Social SupportRating Scale and The self-Esteem Scale and analyzed the data, than got theconclusions:(1) The result of pre-test average difference test shows there was no significantdifference between experimental group and comparison group, they werehomogeneous before intervention. Subjective support is most correlation to socialsupport of its three dimensionalities, and the level of female drug abstainers’subjective support is most seriously lower than normal group.(2) The result of post-test average difference test shows that experimentalgroup’s level of social support and its dimensions, self-esteem and confidence ofsuccessful rehabilitation were significant higher than comparison group’s.(3)These conclusions of this research show that group counseling can helpfemale drug abstainers improve the level of social support, self-esteem andconfidence of successful rehabilitation.
