Attributes of Geography make the multimedia technology play a great role in Multimedia-Assisted Teaching of Geography in middle schools. Studies find that, in our country, the differences of the development of regional economic society lead that Multimedia-Assisted Teaching of Geography in middle schools in less developed areas is far behind the developed areas.This paper uses Xinyang city, which is one of the less developed areas in Henan province, as an example and selects different types of high schools in this city, including Shihe, Xinxian and Huaibing. By designing the questionnaire and using the sample survey, this paper investigates Geography teachers and part of students. After processing and analyzing the survey data, it achieves the conclusion:the government of Xinyang city gives a lot of investment to the construction of multimedia facilities, but the present construction level can’t fully meet the demand of the teachers and students. In terms of use, the education management department has taken some measures to promote the application of the Multimedia-Assisted Teaching, but there exists different effects when measures are taken in different schools and Geography teachers. Studies find that the understanding level of the application of Multimedia-Assisted Teaching among these schools and teachers is different. In terms of attitude and evaluation, the majority of teachers and students believe that Multimedia-Assisted Teaching of Geography is advanced and useful, but at the same time some others still think that the traditional teaching is better than Multimedia-Assisted Teaching.Based on these, this paper summarizes some problems of the multimedia assisting geography teaching of high school in Xinyang:first,the government needs to increase input in it; second,different schools pay different attention to the multimedia assisting teaching; third,geography teachers need to understand and use multimedia aiding teaching well; fourth,the ability of students’ independent learning needs to improve.Aiming at these problems, this paper has analyzed the main reason which arises them:because the development of different regional economic society is different,education informatization investment from the local finance is different;schools pay different attention to the importance of Multimedia-Assisted Teaching of geography;high school Geography teachers need to imrove their proficiency and understanding of informatization;schools and teachers need to pay more attention to cultivate students’ autonomous learning ability etc.According to the problems and analysis of causes found during this survey, this paper puts forward the following suggestions:the government should increase the public investment, balance the allocation of resources, formulate and implement relevant policies;schools should improve cognition thinking, attaches importance to Multimedia-Assisted Teaching; Geography teachers should improve their information literacy and wield the multimedia technology; students should improve their consciousness and the autonomous learning ability of applying computer and network.
