Mathematical problem-solving is an indispensable way for students to grasp basic knowledge and skills firmly; meanwhile it is also a main form of mathematical test and application of knowledge. Mathematical problem-solving ability is an essential ability for students in senior high school grade 3.This paper focuses on the current mathematical problem-solving ability level of students in senior high school grade 3, and the differences of problem-solving ability level in different typological classes, and the differences of problem-solving ability level between male and female students. The essential part of this paper is to establish a reasonable framework to measure students’ ability level of mathematical problem-solving in senior high school grade 3 by reading literatures, and interviewing with experienced teachers and professional examiners of college entrance examination. When the test score sections correspond with the framework of mathematical problem-solving ability levels, we get the mathematical problem-solving ability level situation of the tested students in senior high school grade 3. The test questions were selected from the second test of Suxichangzhen 2014-2015 school year grade 3 teaching situation investigations and research. The test objects is a total of 384 senior high school students from Xian Jiaotong University affiliated high school in Suzhou Industrial Park. Mainly, the Excel software and the SPSS program are used to the statistic and analysis data. Moreover, according to the students’ answer situation this paper will summarize the mathematical problem-solving ability status of senior high school students, and make a number of recommendations to improve the level of mathematical problem-solving ability from two angles of teachers’ teaching and students’ learning.Based on the study, we can conclude that: firstly, the senior high school student’ mathematical problem-solving ability level is generally not high in the tested school, 92.7% of the students’ are in the intermediate level, only less than 5% of the tested students reach the advanced level. Secondly, there are obvious differences between five types of classes(physical and chemical class, physical and biology class, history and politics class, history and geography class and art class) in mathematical problem-solving ability level. The science class’ s mathematical problem-solving ability level is higher than the liberal arts class and art class. Also there are differences between the two science classes. It indicates that the test of physical and chemical class is better than physical and biology class’ s, but the differences between two types of the liberal arts classes is not much obvious. Thirdly, there are significant differences between male and female students in the overall performance of mathematical problem-solving. As a result, the ability level of male students is higher than female students on the whole. Fourthly, the reason for the situation of senior high school student’ level in mathematical problem-solving ability is not single, and it is the result of many factors. For these reasons, we should break through all these problems to improve students’ mathematical problem-solving ability level. |
