With the fast development of Chinese economy and international impact, China’s foreign-related tourism has stepped into a new stage. It is forecasted that china will become the fourth largest tourism destination all over the world. This circumstance will lead to a demand for the tourism’s talents, especially the ability of specialized skills and application skills in tourism English. The secondary vocational schools which provide the first-line workers for tourism industry will face both chances and challenges. Now,the design of English curriculum in secondary vocational schools can’t fulfill the demands of good English talents because of the fast development of tourism. Most students in secondary vocational schools only study English from books, with the less combination of reality.Because of this situation, so many graduates of tourism find it is very difficult to communicate with foreign tourists when they get to work.Under these circumstances, English curriculum of secondary vocational schools must be innovated because of good development of China’s tourist industry and tourism talents. According to the aim of training applied talents, English curriculum in secondary vocational schools should be reformed from the aspects of curriculum contents, curriculum evaluation and teaching methods.This essay is divided into four chapters. This first chapter is an introduction of the whole essay, including the background and meanings of this study, the definitions of the related concepts and research methods. In the second chapter, the author uses the method of questionnaire to make a clear investigation on the enterprise and students of tourism and do a analysis and research on the related data. The problems existing in secondary vocational schools are also found out in this chapter according to the survey results. In the third chapter, the author makes a deep analysis of the existing problems of English curriculum from the aspects of curriculum aim, teaching material contents, teaching methods and curriculum evaluation. The first problem is the disconnection of the aims of existing English curriculum and the target of the applied ability. The followed problem is that curriculum contents can’t reflect the characteristic of applied curriculum. Unreasonable teaching methods are the third problem. And the last one is the unscientific curriculum evaluation system. This essay puts forwards a series of strategies and approaches according to the aspect of cultivating applied talents. First of all, we should be clear that what is the curriculum aims. Secondly, English curriculum should include basic and applied contents. The third way is to make a deep innovation on teaching methods of English curriculum. At last, the curriculum evaluation system should be improved well.
