With the continuous advance of the new curriculum reform, the voices of "people-oriented", "highlighting students’ dominant position", "making students play the crucial role in classes" are lingering in our ears. Besides, the objective of class teaching should focus on the development of students’ independent initiatives. Therefore, the trend of current teaching development in classroom teaching should attach importance on students’ initiatives. Centered theory in teaching process is a hot discussion in education field at present. The construction of a student-centered classroom, the student-oriented classroom teaching concept proposed for some time now, requiring teachers and students construct classroom activities together based on the principle of enlightening, flexibility and initiative. Miaoji Junior High School, which the author was teaching, is at an intermediate level in terms of students and faculty quality. Then how well does student-centered classroom construction work in such a school? What are the difficulties in student-centered classroom construction and how to solve the problems? The discipline the author taught was English language, therefore, the subject of student-centered classroom construction in English teaching was studied.Literatures related with student-centered classroom at home and abroad are analyzed in the first part of this thesis--- Literature Review, in order to provide a status quo of student-centered classroom construction. Based on the first part, the should-be trend of the student-centered classroom construction is elaborated in the second part. An overview of the study with grade seven students in Miaoji as the research object is stated in the third part. Through the analysis on the advantages and difficulties of the student-centered classroom construction, corresponding teaching suggestions and strategies combining with cases study are proposed in the thesis. This thesis will study the student-centered classroom construction by qualitative and quantitative research methods---literature study, questionnaire survey, interview and case study.
