The reform of courses on elementary education has been coming into practice and the foreign language teaching has developed rapidly in recent years. Different junior high schools use more and more foreign language teaching materials. With so different teaching materials, how do teachers deal with these materials to help students study English better? It is very necessary to make an evaluation of the teaching materials. Teaching material evaluation can not only offer the reference for the education administration to select textbooks but also provide advice for the compilers to revise teaching materials.The full set of PEP new Go For It (revised and approved by the Ministry of Education in 2012 and 2013) has five books in total. It is based on The English Curriculum Standard of Compulsory Education(2011 Edition).PEP new Go For It has been put into use since the fall of 2012. By the summer of 2015, the old one has been taken the place of completely. PEP new Go For It is used the most widely in junior high school around the country, therefore it is of great significance to evaluate its quality.This paper is based on the theory about teaching material evaluation at home and abroad, the teaching material function and the subject character and The English Curriculum Standard of Compulsory Education(2011 Edition). The writer evaluates PEP new Go For It by using ten standards from five aspects and making a questionnaire to the teachers and students..By questionnaire and evaluation, the paper makes a conclusion that PEP new Go For It has some advantages and disadvantages.The advantages are:the new teaching material reflects the humanistic thoughts; It applies the advanced teaching method— Task-based language teaching and learning(the combination of topic, function, structure and task);The contents are close to the times, life and the students and have universality and temporal spirit; The arrangement of the new teaching material is manoeuvrable; the evaluation contents and methods of the new teaching material are various. The new teaching material fully embodies the "student-centered" and reflects the dominant position of students in the evaluation.The disadvantages are:the new teaching material has more topics and contents mainly focused on city life. The students in the countryside don’t know them or aren’t familiar with them; Because of large amount of vocabulary and reading, it is difficult for some schools to complete the teaching tasks; The supporting material is not sufficient and it needs to be further perfect.The paper offers some advice for the teachers who are using PEP new Go For It as well:they should deal with teaching contents scientifically and flexibly, improve and optimize the teaching methods.The evaluation of PEP new Go For It can help people judge its quality objectively and scientifically, and it can offer the reference for the writers and help the users of the teaching materials to make a decision.
