Study On The Culture Of Chinese Martial Arts In Yichang

Yichang is located in the central region and at the southwest of Hubei province, which had been the hinges of traffic. Culturally influenced by Chu Culture and Ba Culture, it has been renown as "Gateway to the Three Gorges" and "Throat between Sichuan and Hubei" for a very long time. On account of its special geographical position, the culture of martial arts in Yichang had been affected by both the culture of martial arts in Hubei and Sichuan. Studying on the culture of martial arts in Yichang is beneficial to the improvement of research system on the martial arts in Hubei and Sichuan as well as the enrichment of diversity in Chinese martial arts.This paper uses a series of research methods, such as documentary analysis method, field survey method as well as case study method, which taken the martial arts phenomenon and other related phenomenon in Yichang as research object to study the characteristics of the culture of martial arts in Yichang. In the track of historical development of Yichang martial arts, different times show different characteristics of martial arts culture. In ancient times, the culture of martial arts in Yichang based on Militarism thought and clearly showed the spirit to protect our homes and defend our country. The people in Yichang started to develop the spirit of martial Congyi and carry forward from that period. In the modern times, the martial arts culture in Yichang is the collision and fusion between the traditional martial arts culture and the modern sports culture. The martial arts culture in Yichang began its standardized and scientific process and the change of inheritance way along with the pluralism of teaching content. Meanwhile, the chivalrous spirit of martial arts and morality of military accomplishment are reflected in this special era and martial arts culture appears the characteristics of the transition from the old to the new as well as mutual integration. Modern martial arts culture in Yichang presents mass martial arts and competitive blossom of martial arts. Traditional martial arts need to strengthen the characteristics.The culture of martial arts in Yichang is influenced by its geographical environment, social economy, cultural development and humanistic environment from which can draw a conclusion hat the culture of martial arts in Yichang has the characteristics of diversity, openness, compatibility, mobility and variability.In this paper, a case study of Xiangmen boxing popular in Yichang is carried out. Xiangmen boxing is introduced from Sichuan boxing and stresses the style characteristics of strong actual combat, tough skills, strong attack, stability, accuracy, cruelty, simplicity and practicability.
