The rapid development of knowledge and information in twenty-first century brings hitherto unknown cooperation for human beings. At the same time, the rapid development of science and technology does the same thing. Informatization of social life and economic globalization demands that we need a global language for communication. Therefore, English, with its incomparable advantage, becomes the common language in the world quickly. English is widely used in modern life.With the fast increasing of China’s overall national strength, international exchange and cooperation in our country is also in expansion. English is the most widely used language as a foreign language. Therefore, English education is on the prominent position in basic education development strategy in our country as an important component. Because of the exam-oriented education, high school and college entrance examination only pay attention to the students’ writing skills, but ignore the check of students’ oral English ability. So the students’ English level can not meet the demand of the development of information age. The traditional language teaching method can not adapt to the requirements of modern society.China is a vast country. Because the level of economic development among coastal areas, central areas and western areas is different, so there is a big difference in education. Only by understanding the present situation of oral English teaching in rural areas, and discover the problems existing in the English class, so that we can work out methods to solve the problems effectively. Research results can help to improve local oral English ability.In view of this, this paper takes the teachers and students who live in western mountain areas which is located in Baoji, Shaanxi Provice as the research object. The writer conducted a survey on the current situation of oral English teaching in junior middle school by using the method of questionnaire, observation, interview and empirical approach. In the poor and backward western rural areas, because the education influenced by the social environment, teaching conditions and other factors, it is difficult to set up English course from primary school. English learning starts late causes that oral English ability in local junior middle school can’t be compared with cities.So I designed empirical research, control class and experimental class were used task-based approach and traditional teaching empirical research.And proposed strategies to improve oral teaching mountain:improve the treatment of teachers, retain good English teachers; increased training efforts, improve the professionalism of teachers; change teaching methods, to carry out a wide variety of oral activities; focusing on emotional factors, overcome students mental disorders; English examination system reform, adding oral test. There are also 11 specific strategies in this paper.In conclusion, this paper aims to understand the status of oral English teaching in western mountains junior high school, analyze the reasons for its formation, to explore policy research and to propose measures to promote oral English teaching, hope the results of this study can improve the quality of oral English teaching in mountainous areas, promote the vigorous development of mountain education and contribute to the English teaching in backward areas.
