English textbooks published by Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press play an extremely important role. In 2000, FLTRP and British McMillan publishing group developed the New Standard English based on the national compulsory education English Curriculum Standards (experimental draft). It has been used for more than ten years. In 2011, Ministry of Education officially released English Curriculum Standards in the Phase of Compulsory Education 2011 which has been carried out since autumn in 2012. Meanwhile, FLTRP revised it based on the new curriculum standards. This research adopted the methods of literature review, text analysis and questionnaire to analyze the representation of curriculum objectives in New Standard English. In literature review, it focused on the interpretation of English Curriculum Standards in the Phase of Compulsory Education 2011. Also, it introduced the structure and classification of curriculum objectives in junior high schools. In text analysis, it gave examples to make a detailed analysis of New Standard English from five parts (language skills, language knowledge, affect & attitude, learning strategy and cultural awareness). Meanwhile, it made a deep analysis on the representation of English curriculum objectives by combining questionnaire survey on 102 English teachers in junior high school and 277 students. The questionnaire includes teacher’s version and students’version, which both have background information and 22 questions (21 one-choice questions and 1 open question). In conclusion, the representation of curriculum objectives for New Standard English should be strengthened; the arrangement of the textbooks and the teachers’ viewpoints of textbooks need to be further improved. In addition, the author gives some suggestions. Firstly, the textbooks should be revised to better reflect the curriculum standards; secondly, the teachers should change their views of textbooks and teaching behavior, and finally the teacher should obtain the ability of further development and optimization and integration. The author hopes this research could offer reference to modify this set of textbooks and provide instructions for the teachers to effectively use the books.
