The Role Conflict And Adjustment Of Working Women In The City

In modern society, women are often under double pressures. On one hand, male-dominated culture requires women to stick to the family, play a good role as an understanding wife and loving mother. On the other hand, because of the thought of modern education and gender equity that women are affected, women want to take on the duties of a good society like men,have right to achieve equality, dignity and freedom of choice. The role of women in social development is beyond doubt. As the cell of society, family is the main carrier of the harmonious society, women are in large part a important role of decisive factor in the family’s happiness. In reality, because of the dual roles of family and society, the incumbent women will inevitably lead to the conflict of family roles, which will cause the injury of women’s bodies and minds and influence family happiness.This paper will study the relevant literature, by using the research methods of questionnaire and in-depth interview to investigate the role conflict of working women,in Hunnan District of Shenyang city, 200 career women from a community called Zaishuiyifang will be chosen as a case, Besides, the explanation frame of "role conflict and role adjustment",which is applied to the social gender theory, will be used to discusses the reasons for the conflict of the urban working women’s family roles. It will point out that under the traditional view, role positioning, imbalance of the proportion of household chores, the difference between the expectation of the role of women in the job and their own ability and more than above things can cause the role anxiety of women in family.To be a modern family role as an understanding wife and loving mother, women should not only improve their own quality to get a reasonable balance between family and career, but also requires other family members in the family to change the traditional concepts, they need to care for women, share family affairs, so that they can achieve the role of complementation and balance. At the same time, the society should give support to women in the concept of change,legal protection and other aspects. Thus, a harmonious society can be made.
