With the implementation of new curriculum reform, mathematics homework never attracts enough attention with the progress of new curriculum reform. The reform mostly is a design aiming at the classroom teaching procedure or a permeation of thinking method. But the design of schoolwork has never changed very much,mainly reflected on that the source of homework is single with inflexible and boring contents, and the requirement is highly unified without caring students’ individual differences. But there are no experiments combined with teaching practice so that the research conclusions have no practical guiding significance.This research has obtained valuable data and materials from teachers and six grade students in Kunming Gaoxing No.1 Primary School by means of questionnaire survey and interview. And based on humanistic learning theory, Zone of Proximal Development" Theory, "Learning by Doing" theory, and Freudenthal’s thought of mathematics education, it proposes the strategy to improve the design of high grade mathematics schoolwork in primary schools. Next it carries out an experimental research in class one grade six lasting five months so as to test the effectiveness and validity of the improvement strategy.Main conclusions from the research are: firstly, teachers should clarify the function of schoolwork; secondly, teachers should pay attention to students’ principal status. Thirdly, the design of schoolwork should be focused on effectively combining the quality and quantity of schoolwork. Specific suggestions: design diversified schoolwork; stimulate students’ learning interest to discover the value of mathematics in the life; build scientific and reasonable mechanism for schoolwork record and assessment to develop students’ good learning attitude and study habit.Schoolwork is an important procedure during the teaching. The important role of schoolwork design can never be ignored in the process of improving teaching quality.Hope this research can provide some inspirations and facilitations to improve the design of high-grade mathematics schoolwork in primary schools.
