The USA is the origin place where modern career counseling occurred, and after a century, now career counseling is developed well. Therefore,researching on the present time of the professional quality cultivation plays an important role in the professional quality cultivation in China.Firstly, through the collecting of documents from the country and abroad, The writer divides the history of American the professional quality cultivation of career counselors into three stages and then analyzes the different stages of the career counselors’ background, motivation and system. Secondly, the writer analyses knowledge, kills and ability of career counselors according to O*NET. Thirdly, the chapter three systematically introduces the present time of the professional quality cultivation of career counselors in the USA. There are three suggestions for the universities: Universities should build independent specialty area of career counseling and take the responsibilities to cultivate career counselors with high professional quality; Universities should increase the percentages of practices curriculum and stress skills in work; Universities should carry out the supervision and perfect assessment system, and ensure the quality of students’ knowledge and skills. There are two suggestions for the profession associations: The profession associations should set up and perfect the systems of the profession association; the profession associations should enhance the duties of career counselors assessment and supervision. The suggestion for themselves is to develop consciousness, improve career cognition and professional quality.
