Investigation And Countermeasures Of Mathematics Anxiety Of Art Students In High School

Mathematics anxiety effects high school students’ mathematics learning and their accomplishments even can cause psychological barrier to some extents. As a special group in high school, art students have different characteristics from general high school students. However, existing research focuses primarily on general high school students or students in vocational and technical school; there is obvious neglect in mathematics anxiety of art students.This research investigated 279 art students from high school in Chengdu, Sichuan province with mathematics anxiety scale, and explores the status of their mathematics anxiety with the different analysis of gender, grade and specialties. Through further interviews, we analyze the contributory factors of mathematics anxiety of art students in high school, and give some strategies for art students’ mathematics learning according to their characteristics.The main conclusion of this research:1. There is gender difference in mathematics anxious of high school art students, and girls’ anxiety is stronger than boys’;2. There is no grade difference in mathematics anxious of high school art students, but the freshmen are more anxious than the senior;3. There is specialty difference in mathematics anxious of high school art students, and the broadcasting’ anxiety is stronger than that in music and fine art.The main suggestions of this research:1. Establish a correct view of mathematics, stimulating the intrinsic motivation of mathematics learning;2. Create more experience of success, enhancing the sense of self-efficacy;3. Pay attention to the ZPD(zone of proximal development) of art students, arranging reasonably the content of mathematics learning;4. Assist parents to encourage art students, creating a positive atmosphere of mathematics learning.
