Economic globalization and informationization in social life, is rapidly changing the world. As one of the languages used worldwide, English has become the most widely used language in all areas of modern life, and its importance is increasingly evident. English proficiency has become an important indicator to measure the ability of modern people. For existing English textbooks in junior high school,the Ministry of Education promulgated the "English curriculum standardsfor compulsory education"(2011 edition) in 2012. New Curriculum describes the purpose of the English curriculummore clearly, which makes language teaching return to the track of actual usingThis research chooses two sets of English textbooks in Guizhou province as comparative objects, one is project English, the other is Go for it! They were both published in 2012. Comparing and analyzing the internal study and external evaluation of the two sets. For internal study, analyzing the surface-layer structure and deep-layer structure to sum up the advantages and disadvantages of the two sets of English textbooks. The surface structure includes system architecture, content selection and program design and illustration; deep structure includes teaching emotional attitude, cultural awareness, language skill elements(listening, speaking, reading and writing) and linguistic knowledge(pronunciation, vocabulary and grammar). For external evaluation of the two sets of textbooks, I mainly use questionnaire and interview research to summarize the conclusion. Through the internal study and external evaluation of the two sets, I draw a conclusion that both of the two sets of textbooks take topics as the main line, meeting the demand of the "English curriculum standards for compulsory education"(2011 edition). Teachers and students recognized the two sets of textbooks. Project English is relatively easy; suitable for students with a low starting point, especially in poor rural students. Go For It is suitable for the students whose English is better, Because it’s more standard and difficult. There are too many contents need to be expanded. Finally, the research puts forward some suggestions to the users of two sets of textbooks, to help them more effectively.
