A Survey On The Textbook Used By English Teachers In Junior Middle Schools In Nanning

With the development of the world and the global economies,foreign language plays a more and more important role in education area.People from over the world realize the importance of elementary foreign language education and elementary educational reform has been deeply developed.English education is a crucial part of elementary education and the textbook and curriculum is the key points of English elementary education reform.Therefore,the use of English teaching material became a hot topic in textbook research area for English teachers.However,the interpretation and performance of the same curriculum vary from teacher to teacher,school to school.Therefore,based on the existing research results of English textbook employment and cognitive psychology,the author did the survey on English textbooks used by English teachers in ten middle schools of Nanning,Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region by means of questionnaire and interview.The research subjects are 116 English teachers from ten junior middle schools.The author investigated the current situation of the textbook employment from the following six aspects:extent of teachers' understanding of textbook,cognition and attitude of textbook employment,understanding of the Curriculum Standard,textbook employment in practice,problems and difficulties in textbook employment and needs and expectations of textbook employment.From the interview,the thesis has deeper analysis and discussion about teachers' use of English textbook.The result presents:1.Most English teachers are familiar with NST and they are positive to use NST as well,while some novice teachers are not familiar enough.Some teachers are quite familiar with the Curriculum Standard and some do not pay attention to the Curriculum Standard.2.Most English teachers use textbook based on real teaching and situation of students;they also employ other teaching resources to improve students' ability.3.Many English teachers have problems and difficulties in teaching so they hope to learn more about knowledge of textbook employment.At last,the thesis proposes some suggestions for English teachers and educational administrator.Firstly,teachers should learn more about the Curriculum Standard and acquire knowledge from other subjects.Secondly,English teachers ought to have an overall grasp of English textbooks and widely read other textbooks.Thirdly,educational administrators should open a course about the Curriculum Standard for young teachers,set up a website and resources sharing files to support resources.Finally,the author hopes to offer some references to the future area of English teachers' textbook employment.
