Textbooks play a very important role in teaching and provide important sources of language learners to acquire knowledge and enhance their language skills. In addition, the activities in textbook language and exercises are also important channels for knowledge of the language learning and language skills development. For teachers and students, there is no more suitable for teaching and learning educational media than a textbook. The selection and use of appropriate teaching textbooks is the premise to complete tasks and achieve teaching objectives.As China’s basic education curriculum reform is deepening, various textbooks influx markets. Among them, the People’s Education Press Go For It! Textbook series is the most wide range, one of the most popular junior high school English textbooks, since 2002 using the obtained a lot of praise. Over the past decade, according to National English Curriculum Standards(Revision) requirements and use issued in December 2011 in the feedback teachers and students, the kit while maintaining the original features and advantages of the materials were part amendments.This study adopts the methods of documentary researchand comparative research, through combing the current research achievements on textbook evaluation and structure, then compare the two sets of English textbooks in junior high school in language knowledge, language skills, attitudes, learning strategies and cultural awareness with design and other aspects, to find out the advantages and the disadvantages of the new edition. Finally, this paper takespractical recommendations for the compiling and using of the textbooks.The study finds that the new textbooks more in line with the requirements of new curriculum standards in terms of structure, content and other more scientific and reasonable. There in the vocabulary, voice, knowledge and cultural awareness, great progress can be consistent with the law students to learn the language, to better facilitate students’ listening, speaking, reading and writing of all-round development. However, textbooks are still some deficiencies, such as grammar layout structure is not clear, writing and listening exercises and other activities in a single. Therefore, in view of these problems, the author of the article and finally teachers and writers suggested.
