Wireless Mesh Network, which is called WMN in short, is a special Aod Hocwireless broadband network with multi-hop, self-organizing, self-healing, scalability,and other characteristics. Wireless Mesh Network is deeply concerned bycommunities due to its self-advantages. With the rapid development of informationtechnology, an increasing demanding about the quality of network services, which ismainly about the voice, video and other multimedia services, is required by people. Inthis paper, the distinction function of wireless Mesh network and the IEEE802.11sstandard Mesh Networks have been studied.The Research object of this paper is the Wireless Mesh Router which has ServiceDifferentiation Functions. Based on the FPGA platform which supported networkcommunication, it designs and implements the Wireless Mesh Router from the twoaspect of the hardware and software respectively. From the view of hardware,interface module, a storage module, FPGA chip and the wireless module have beenanalyzed to build the FPGA platform. From the view of software, the Ethernet controlnetwork processing module, routing, forwarding and wireless module have beendescribed to introduce the implementation of software function.The search of this thesis results are as follows:Firstly, it designs and inplements the Petalinux system transplatation based onXilinx Spartan-3E board.Secondly, Based on Petalinux system implemented on Xilinx Spartan-3E, the busIP core, Ethernet IP core and Petalinux system provided from Xilinx have beenadapted to implement the basic data communications, routing and forwardingfunctions of router.Thirdly, design the network processor module to parse and process the dataframe, and implement the design of router with the function of service differentiation.This thesis transplants the Petalinx, and uses the linux kernal to provide thenetwork protocol and implement the Mesh Router protocol. It provides a new schemefor Wireless Mesh Router, as well as the thoery basis for system design based onFPGA.
