In power system. power system transmission line is the key to the safe and stableoperation of power system, the fault direct threaten the operation of power system. Therefore,quickly and accurately locate faults location and failure recovery are important measures toguarantee safe and stable operation of power system. To address this issue, a multi travellingwave fault location device has been developed and put into use at home and abroad, bothobtained good results. Now the development of the FPGA chip and wavelet transform signalprocessing technology will push related device research further.This paper mainly completes the hardware debug and FPGA hardware logic design fortraveling wave fault location device based on FPGA. Including the hardware debug of internaldevice, FPGA chip module framework, device overall processs and implementation of eachfunction module. Traveling wave fault location device hardware has AD data acquisition card,FPGA chip, SDRAM chip, USB and LAN. Each function module using Verilog HDLhardware language, including AD sampling module, Wavelet filter module, SDRAM memorymodule and fault location module etc. The front of device is AD sampling module, whichcomplete the wave of rapid and accurate information acquisition. Wavelet filter module filterthe AD sampling data, Wavelet filter coefficients are wavelet coefficients. Wavelet filter usesthe IP core of FIR compiler design, it has stability and easy to transplant and change the filtercoefficients. Fault location module through the threshold method to extract line wave peak,fault distance calculation uses the single-ended method. SDRAM module is used to controlthe storage of traveling wave data, when the user demand data can be uploaded to positionmachine. Finally, the paper established the MATLAB simulation model of transmission linefault to output fault signal analog, and then use SignalTap II to simulate the entire device,testing its fault distance calculation result. Through the verification, the traveling wave faultlocation device is designed in this paper can effectively achieve the single-ended faultlocation, consistent with the demand of practical project.In addition, the hardware of traveling wave fault location designed in this paper has twoSDRAM and it provided a plurality of expansion I/O port. Two SDRAM can realizeuninterrupted data storage; Extended I/O ports can be inserted into the GPS chip to realizenetwork time synchronization, which allows for double-ended fault location method.Traveling wave fault location device designed in this paper uses FPGA chip to complete,it has good flexibility and stability. It lays a good foundation for the further development oftravelling wave fault location device in the future.
