With the development of society and the improvement of People’s living standard, the dental caries, as one of the three key human prevent diseases, was paid on more and more attention by people. There are many methods to diagnose the dental caries,the analysis method based on the auto-fluorescence imaging of tooth has been extensively studied. It has a series of advantages, such as fast, non-destructive and objective. Through the processing of the fluorescence imaging, the early dental caries can be diagnosed. The result of the diagnosis is decided by the quality of image. The purpose of this paper is design a high sensitivity color CCD image acquisition device.This paper designed a color CCD image acquisition device based on FPGA. It can realize image transmission with PC by using USB bus. As the main control chip, FPGA accepts the data from A/D and transmit it to PC through USB for the subsequent processing. The drive pulses of CCD and the control signals of peripheral hardware circuit are generated by FPGA. For the requestments of miniaturization and economization of the system, we chose EP3C5M164C7 chip in Cyclone III of Altera as the main chip of the system, it is small and in the form of BGA encapsulation. ICX618AQ was chosen as the imaging sensor for its high sensitivity, it is proper to Collection weak fluorescence signal. The CY7C68013 in EZ-USB FX2 of CYCPRESS has intelligent USB port and integrate USB2.0 protocol. So the system features with plug-and-play, portable and high speed and so on.The overall framework of the system was constructed by the study of the basic structure of the image acquisition system. Based on the system requirement, the selection of hardware was done. After the research of the basic structure and working principle of the main chips, this paper analyzed the driving schedule of ICX618AQ and the Control logic signal of AD9945.Based on the USB2.0 technology, the firmware program of USB was wrote and external triggering by key was realized. The Function Driver Modular and Control module program were programmed through hardware description language by Quartus Ⅱ.
