Market environment, business competitors, partners and other stakeholders are constantlychanging and highly unstable. Industry chains face split and restructuring. Corporateboundaries blur makes it possible that companies integrate with each other. And globalizationalso makes enterprises have to face the situation which they operate in different marketsamong different countries. Enterprises need sustainable business model innovation to adapt tothe dynamic, progressive and unstable environment above. Certain strong enterprises haveencounter bottlenecks which relate to those companies sustain in the development process.Some companies survive, ushered in a new round of prosperity, while the majority ofenterprises, wait their fate bankruptcy or acquisition. When the companies’ product lines turnunattractive and sales profits lose increased space, companies will fall into the bottleneck andwalk on the brink of failure. The reason why these companies fail because they are overlyconcerned with financial indicators while ignoring the business model innovation. How toavoid falling into such situations? How to take business model innovation just before thecrisis coming? Those are questions companies need to solve in today’s uncertain businessenvironment.There is no lack of study of business model innovation. Foreign literatures concern onnouns and compositions of business model innovation (Magretta,2002; Osterwalder et al,2005.). The focus begins to turn to strategic innovation opportunity recently (Yunus et al.,2010). Researches specifically focus on the impact on business model innovation are rare inChina. Meanwhile, most studies build on the core competence and resource-based perspective.They did not explore too much on the basis of institutionalism.For the problems enterprises encounter in practice, this study will base on the view ofinstitutional legitimacy by reviewing domestic and foreign researches. This Study will explorethe motivators of business model innovation, and how they are affected by legitimacy factors.We open business model innovation mechanism basing institutional theory.
