The Study On The Spatial Distribution Of Star Hotels In Xiamen

The situation of urban hotel development is an important symbol of measuringregional tourist reception capacity and the level of tourism development. In the hotelindustry, Star hotel has its strict standards which formulated by the state in both thehardware and the software construction, to a certain extent,which represents the levelof a region or a city hotel industry development. As a famous tourist city in China, thestar hotel industry’s good development of Xiamen laid a solid foundation for the pacetowards the international tourism market. Studying the spatial distributioncharacteristics of star hotel in Xiamen has great significance to this city’s hotelindustry development and its pattern of commercial land, which can make somepredictions and optimization advice to the relevant government management,planning department and investors.This paper combines the traditional statistical analysis and spatial statisticalanalysis based on GIS techniques. With the support of CrimeStat3.2, Surfer11,ArcGIS9.3and GeoDa095i technology, it adopts nearest neighbor distance index,spatial syntax, exploratory spatial data analysis to analysis the spatial distributioncharacteristics of star-rated hotels in Xiamen from the “point-line-surface” threelevels and tries to explore the possible factors.The main conclusions are as follows:(1) Hotels in Xiamen are overall distributed in clusters, among them,3-starhotels are the most significant,4-star and5-star hotels tend to be more evenlydistributed, however,2-star hotels present discrete distribution. The hot spots of starhotels are ZhongShan street, egret island area, WuCun street, SongBai-JiangTou areaand HuLi district.(2) As a whole, Star hotels distribute in the urban traffic integration core region.The spatial distribution of high star hotels fit the system integration core regiongenerally, but3-star hotels perform quiet well.(3) As a whole, the density distribute of star hotels presents a positive spatialautocorrelation in the15streets of Xiamen island, but each grade of star hotels doesn’t show the characteristics of spatial autocorrelation. In local spatial correlationanalysis, the central and western area of Siming district has significant features. Thesmall number of every grade of star hotels makes the analysis sample insufficient,resulting in the analysis of surface data characteristics doesn’t obvious.(4) City commercial layout and its flourishing degree, historical developmentpattern, distribution of main traffic roads are the main factors to the spatialdistribution of star hotels in Xiamen island. Generally, tourist attractions and facilitiesplay an important role in distribution of hotels, but in Xiamen island, they just have asmall impact.
