The article take the TFP (Total Factor Productivity, TFP) of the Yangtze River Delta Regionas a study object, and take the two levels of regional and industry as the breakthrough point. Aftersystematically expounded the TFP theory, we measured and comparatively analyzed the TFP ofthe two provinces and one city so as to seek the source of economic growth for Yangtze RiverDelta region and puts forward some relevant problems. At last, we put up to some specificcountermeasures for the long-term economic development of Yangtze River Delta; In the analysisof industrial level, we used the DEA-Malmquist index method to compute the two provinces andone city’s TFP of the manufacturing and the services industry and separately carried on thedecomposition. The main conclusions are as follows:First, from the perspective of regional economic growth, on the whole the TFP of the YangtzeRiver Delta’s two provinces and a city were higher than the national average level; however, thegrowth rate of total factor productivity is equivalent to the national average level, and thetechnological progress contribution to economic growth is not obvious, in which only the averagegrowth rate of Shanghai is higher, significantly more than the national average, and that in Jiangsuand in Zhejiang is general.Second, in the process of China’s economic development transformation development, theYangtze River Delta are in the forefront of our country, but the Yangtze River Delta region, especially Jiangsu and Zhejiang, also faces the urgent requirement that the economic growth modetranslate from the basic factor accumulation to the mode of productivity driven.Third, the TFP of manufacturing industry in Yangtze River Delta region has been increasing, and always in an important position in the contribution to economic growth. After we take thedecomposition of total factor productivity of manufacturing industry, from the two angles oftechnical progress and technical efficiency of manufacturing industry, we find that the TFP ofYangtze River Delta’ manufacturing industry is mainly rely on technological progress, and thecontribution of technical efficiency is expressed as a negative growth. Finally, as a whole the Yangtze River Delta region has not dig out the potential of serviceindustry’s contribution to economic growth. The resource utilization efficiency is not very high.Although the average level of technical progress index still is increasing, the technical inefficiencyis low.
