The Research For The Adoption Of Innovation Sources In Open Innovation

Henry Chesbrough， United States Scholar and Professor of UC Berkeley， in hisbook: Open Innovation: The New Imperative for Creating and Profiting from Technology，promoted Open Innovation as a new innovation paradigm in2003. More and moreenterprises are using open innovation as their innovation process; open innovation has alsobeen an increasing number of company’s consideration. Open innovation theoryencourages companies to expand their innovation boundary， seeking innovative resourcesand knowledge from outside the firm. The research and practice for Open innovationtheory also proved that open innovation can integrate internal and external resources.This paper is based on technological innovation， open innovation， innovationsource and innovation performance theory research and study， explores that if thediversity of open innovation sources can help to improve the innovation performance ofenterprises or not， the research approach mainly uses theoretical and case study methods.At first， the paper researches related articles and literatures， analyzes two modes oftechnical innovation and the innovation process， analyzes the formation， characteristics，advantages of open innovation， while also lists the common open innovation source，researches and analyzes the impact from the diversity of innovation sources for openinnovation via theoretical analysis and prompt that diversity of the innovation sources andinnovation performance have a direct effect.Through the cases study via Cisco， which is a successful enterprise in the openinnovation and using diversity of open innovation source， analyses how Cisco usesoutside resources， companies acquisition， venture capital， open innovation communities and users as five large open innovation sources make Cisco execute openinnovation successfully， through the data comparison and analysis to prove therelationship between diversity of open innovation and innovation performance.
