In the context of China's new normal economic development,investment-driven and factor-driven development models can no longer match the needs of economic development in the new era.Enterprises need to use diversified technological innovations to meet market challenges, surpass competitors, and achieve long-term development. On the one hand, companies need to make use of exploitative innovation to improve the efficiency of the company's operations and obtain short-term benefits. On the other hand, enterprises need to constantly carry out new developments, explore new markets through exploratory innovation, gain market competitiveness, and achieve long-term development. But because of the limited resources of the enterprise itself, the implementation of dual innovation will increase the competition for scarce resources. In order to break the limitation of ambidextrous innovation caused by insufficient resources, enterprises begin to rely on external knowledge and information to make up for their own lack of resources, and open and innovative does not mean that they can improve the innovation ability of enterprises, because enterprises have an outbound innovation risks, such as core technology leakage, knowledge outflow will cause a low willingness to share knowledge among enterprises, hinder cooperation between enterprises, and may cause internal innovation to be restricted.Whether open innovation can promote the innovation ability within the organization, especially exploratory innovation and exploitative innovation ability, this question remains to be solved. It is of great practical significance to study the effect of inbound and outbound innovation on the ambidextrous innovation strategy of enterprises in practice to provide guidance for enterprises on how to cooperate with market stakeholders.Based on the resource-based view and the theory of dynamic capabilities, this study measured innovation and openness through a total of 656 annual reports of 164 listed pharmaceutical companies from 2013 to 2017.The negative binomial regression method was adopted, and the absorptive capacity was used as the adjustment variable. The impact of open innovation on ambidextrous innovation, and the moderating effect of absorptive capacity on the above-mentioned effects. The empirical results show that:inbound open innovation has a positive effect on exploratory innovation and exploitative innovation;outbound open innovation has a negative effect on exploratory innovation and exploitative innovation;corporate absorptive capacity has an impact on open innovation and ambidextrous innovation. The innovations of this research include:based on the resource-based view and dynamic capability theory, considering the impact of knowledge inflow and outflow on the organization's internal innovation activities under different open modes of the enterprise,it has enriched the relevant research on open innovation behavior,in addition, the use of corporate finance The data, combined with the specific domestic situation, quantified the actual open innovation behavior of the enterprise from the two dimensions of the company's business transaction activities and financial transaction activities, and added relevant research on the specific financial measurement indicators of open innovation;finally, considering the conversion of resource utilization efficiency, incorporating absorptive capacity into open innovation and ambidextrous innovation, enriching and deepening relevant research on the role of absorptive capacity. The limitation of this study is that the sample company belongs to a single industry, and it does not increase the time span.It further explores the impact of long-term internal and external open innovation on ambidextrous innovation.
