Energy-intensive industry includes many important basic industries and strategicindustries in China, and it plays a crucial role in China’s economic layout. However, with the dual pressure of promoting economic growth and improving environmentquality, the clashes between the ideas of development and restraint have becomeintense, making the development of energy-intensive industries an increasing concernof public attention. Through in-depth research on the development situation of theenergy-intensive industry and its clusters, from the two dimensions of industrialpolymerization and industrial concentration, and by means of input-output methodand location entropy index, this thesis identifies the clusters of the energy-intensiveindustry and analyzes its industrial relations, regional distribution and trend ofdevelopment. In the end, by taking the example of oil-gas industrial cluster andiron-steel industrial cluster, in which the input and output are more closely-related,this thesis establishes the panel data regression model of the influence factors ofindustrial clusters and analyses the influence of each indicator on industrialagglomeration.Research results show:(1) the development of China’s energy-intensive industrycluster presents two characteristics, one is that the number of clusters are declining, the other one is that industries included in each cluster are increasing. The twocharacteristics illustrate that inter-industry relations between the energy-intensiveindustries are strengthened, indicating a large-scale circulation development model isin the making.(2) in terms of the measurement results of the location entropy index,oil-gas-coal-electricity cluster and the iron-steel-architecture-manufacturing-chemicalcluster, the former cluster is found in the north-east, north-west and central Chinaregions, while the latter cluster is scattered in Bo Hai Coastal Region and someprovinces in the central region, which are rich in various mineral resources. Bycontrasting the locational quotient value, the degree of specialization of theoil-gas-coal-electricity cluster is relatively higher than that of theiron-steel-architecture-manufacturing-chemical cluster, manifesting closer industrialrelations and higher degree of integration in the former cluster. Besides, the resultalso shows that in highly developed areas like Beijing and Shanghai, energy-intensiveindustries are moving outwards and industrial agglomeration no longer exists.(3) Factors influencing the degree of energy-intensive industry clusters include: the scaleof the cluster, regional resources(transportation, telecommunication), essentialproductive factors (the quality and level of the labor force). Among these factors, essential productive factors have a negative effect on the development of industrialclusters; innovation capacity has no significant influence on both clusters; externaleconomic situation has no significant influence on the oil-gas-coal-electricity cluster, while it has significant influence on the iron-steel cluster.Based on the measurement results, this thesis presents several opinion on how toepromote the development of energy-intensive industries in the end...
