Since the1990s, as an important content of tourism sustainable development andevaluation basis, community participation in tourism development were attentted byresearchers. Dealing with community participation and protecting the interests of thetourism destination residents has become the key of the sustainable development oftourism. So this paper attempted to study community particip ation issues from theplace attachment to explore the influences of community participation behavior and toexplain the various contradictions and conflicts during the tourism development.Based on the theory of place and community participation, this paper studied twoaspects of the research: Firstly, reviewed relevant literatures on the basis of existingtheories, analyzed the relationship between the native place attachment andcommunity participation and put forward that there is relevance between them.Secondly, based on the relevant literatures and theories, this paper made indigenouspeoples of the zhangjiajie wulingyuan scenic area as research samples and didempirical study on how the native place attachment effects the communityparticipation in tourism community by using SPSS16.0and LISREL8.7software toanalyze the data processing through the questionnaire survey.The empirical results show that:(1) the native place attachment consists twodimensions of material attachment and emotional attachment;(2) indigenous peoplesmaterial attachment has significant positive influence on their emotional attachmentand the former is an important factor to form the latter;(3) the residents of thematerial attachment and emotional attachment has a significant positive influence onthe residents of community participation behavior, and the influence of emotionalattachment on the community participation should be greater;(4) emotionalattachment plays an intermediary role between the physical attachment andcommunity involvement. Finally, we discussed the ways to enhance indigenouscommunity participation and the practical significance of the research placeattachment.
