A Study On The Place Attachment And Happiness Of Tourism Labor Migration

Recently,the theories of "Mobility" and "Place" have been important topics in the sociocultural geography and tourism management research field.However,previous studies in the field have paid less attention to an important group—tourism labor migrants.Xi’an Hui community is a representative ethnic urban tourism community in China.Labor migrants have become an important source of the Hui community workforce,whose development and integration in long-distance place should be paid more attention urgently.The ethnic and religious natures of labor migrants in Hui community make the multidimensional relations of mobility and locality,space and place,and sacred and profane much more complicated.Given that,By studying the place attachment and subjective well-being of tourism labor migrants in Xi’an Hui community,this research will clarify the emotional orientation and performance in the interactive process between people and place.In terms of theory,this research will enrich and perfect the theory system of sense of place and tourism well-being;in terms of practice,this research will provide fresh thinking for the harmonious development and the construction of social security system for the ethnic urban tourism community.In this thesis’ research process,utilizing the method that the theoretical analysis unifies the real practical research,this paper built the conceptual model of depicting the influence of place attachment on subjective well-being of tourism labor migrants,and used structural equation modeling to verify the hypotheses proposed in the model.The research contents are as follows:based on the theoretical basis and literature analysis,finalized the structural dimensions of Muslim labor migrants’ place attachment and subjective well-being,and developed measurement scales on them;conducted a field investigation to organize the issuance and recovery of the data,then utilized exploratory factor analysis and reliability and validity analysis to verify the scientificity and availability of the scale development,and established theoretical model of depicting the influence of place attachment on subjective well-being of tourism labor migrants;at last,used structural equation modeling to verify the hypotheses proposed in the model,and ulteriorly analyzed the real life level and emotional state of labor migrants.This thesis reached some specific conclusions as below:(1)The structural dimension of Muslim labor migrants’ place attachment.The study found that religious belief is a link bridge of placeness connection and identity among the same ethnic groups,which plays an important role in labor migrants’development and integration.Meanwhile,the direct purpose of migration is obtaining higher economic remuneration and enjoying the convenience of city life.Besides,the labor migrants also have social interaction demands that are based primarily on the relationship between colleagues at same store and ethnic identity of same religion.Therefore,material attachment,social attachment and religious attachment together constitute the place attachment of Muslim labor migrants.Based on theoretical analysis,the paper developed a measurement scale on the place attachment of Muslim labor migrants.After exploratory factor analysis and confirmatory factor analysis on structure,reliability and validity,it finally formed a scale in three dimensions with eleven items.(2)The structural dimension of subjective well-being of tourism labor migrants.Corresponding to the contemporary research trend of academic variety,based on the mechanism of well-being occurring,the paper combined personality theory and goal theory,and concluded that the subjective well-being of tourism labor migrants was influenced by the personality traits and the living practices in ingoing places.Based on theoretical analysis,the paper developed a measurement scale on the subjective well-being of tourism labor migrants.After exploratory factor analysis and confirmatory factor analysis on structure,reliability and validity,it finally formed a scale in six dimensions with twenty-two items.Moreover,the scale is off limits of the ethnic and religious belief,and can be applied to the labor market in the context of mobility.(3)The influence of place attachment on subjective well-being of tourism labor migrants.According to the results of structural equation modeling,the place attachment of tourism labor migrants had positive impacts on the subjective well-being.Each dimension of the subjective well-being had been positively affected by place attachment.Although there were individual hypotheses that were not verified,it reflected the real living state and emotional state of labor migrants in Hui community.Due to the limitation of tourism industry,labor migrants are busily engaged in work and are lack of leisure time and social bonds,which makes that their material needs and religious belief needs haven’t been fully satisfied.Relatively speaking,the social interaction demands of labor migrants are minimally satisfied.The innovations of this thesis are as follows:(1)Using place traits as starting point,the paper explored the role of ethnic and religion belief of labor migrants in the construction of their new sense of place,and proposed a three-dimensional framework of place attachment,to expand the deepening of sense of place research of tourism migrants;(2)According to the mechanism of well-being occurring,the paper proposed that the subjective well-being of labor migrants was constituted of competence,recognition,morality pursuit,life satisfaction,positive affect and negative affect,which combined subjective and objective factors,and took their interaction effects into consideration,and enriched the connotations of labor migrants’ subjective well-being;(3)Correlating sense of place in sociocultural geography with subjective well-being in psychology,the thesis is a rewarding exploration for intercross investigation.It reveals the mechanism of place attachment acting on subjective well-being,and provides new ideas for researching the process that labor migrants integrate into the ingoing places.
