Research On The Corporate Social Responsibility Evaluation Index System For Commercial Banks In China

In the context of social responsibility increasingly valued by the financial sector,commercial banks have successively published CSR reports. While the reports ofcommercial banks demonstrate growing investment in social responsibility every year,but the functions of commercial banks in the real economy, as well as the image ofcustomer service are still doubted by most people. Such as excessive erosion ofeconomic profit, weak service awareness caused by monopoly, numerous projects ofservice charges and so on. In order to provide a more open and fair reflection of theabove problems,and regulate the CSR behavior of commercial banks, we desperatelyneed a criteria to evaluate the commercial banks about fulfilling the socialresponsibility, then we can promote and facilitate the commercial banks in the rightdirection.Drawing on existing research about index system, establish a three-levelevaluation index system for commercial banks classified by direct input, functionprocess and effects received via a unique perspective, and choose the AHP and thevariable coefficient method to determine the weight. Since the fully consideration ofthe reality of the conflict focus, as well as the availability and continuity of the data,it is possible to directly apply the index system to evaluate the fulfillment of socialresponsibility of11commercial banks from2007to2012. The empirical resultsshow,except a staged rise in2009, the social responsibility performance of Chinesecommercial banks show a downward trend in six years while the profit shows asubstantial rise. Besides, the effect of output indicators is an important cause of thedeclining.That means the satisfaction of our customers and investors about thefunction and service of commercial banks has been declining, So China’s commercialbanks should not only improve the performance and prevent the risk, but also raise theawareness of social responsibility, implement the generally beneficial finance policy,and increase efforts to help the real economy.
