With the deepen reform of income distribution, China’s production efficiency andeconomic development has been greatly improved. At the same time, the pro blem ofunfair income distribution has become increasingly outstanding, which has becomethe focus of social attention, and has affected the development of a harmonioussociety. However, existing studies on the residents’ income distribution of variousregions mostly divided the various regions into several parts in accordance with thegeographical administrative segmentation, and on this basis, have an empirical test onthese parts, which, has implied a prejudging on the income levels and gap types ofvarious regions. This paper has avoided the similar prejudging as eastern, central andwestern regions, and put an equal footing every economical entity to identify thespecific type of each province and city from all samples. What’s more, the previousstudies mostly focused on comparison between countries or province comparison, sothere is almost no literature on studies on various areas, not to mention to put theincome types of every region into a dynamic research framework.Based on this, the paper set the judging criteria from two dimensions on theresidents’ income level and income distribution fairness level and has a clusteranalysis on the income types of31provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions, which divided it into four types: high-fair, high-unfair, low-fair, low-unfair. Then, thispaper used the relative data from1985to2011of all the provinces, municipalities andautonomous regions and build regional income levels and fairness index to have aempirical study from six standardized factors included: urbanization, economicdevelopment, investment level, financial development, educational development andgovernment policy and concluded the main affecting factors of the income types anddistribution fairness levels of four types. Among them, the level of economicdevelopment is the most important factor affecting all income types, and the impact ofgovernment policy in high-income areas is also important, high-fair region is alsoaffected by the financial development while high-unfair region is also affected byinvestment level and urbanization; low-fair region is affected by educationdevelopment and urbanization in addition; while the factors affecting the low-unfairarea include investment level, urbanization, educational development and governmentpolicy.
