In recent years, China’s equipment manufacturing industry has developed rapidly,in2013, China’s equipment manufacturing industry output value has broken through20trillion yuan, ranked first in the world, over a third of global share, it means that ourcountry is really lives up to his name as a big equipment manufacturing industrycountry, At the same time, it cannot be ignored that there is a certain distance from thepower equipment manufacturing industry. It is still a puzzled problem that China’sequipment manufacturing industry is big but not strong, the equipment manufacturingindustry’s low core competitiveness, backward technology and other problems need tobe solved immediately, at this point, the disadvantage is more apparent in the west,enhance the core competitiveness is essential in China’s equipment manufacturingindustry and even the west. Therefore, measure western equipment manufacturingindustry’s TFP, study the influencing factors, and then explore the effective responsesto promote western equipment manufacturing industry’s TFP, which has importantpractical significance to the development of western equipment manufacturingindustry.This paper choose "western equipment manufacturing industry’s TFP" as thetarget of study, On the basis of analyzing the productivity research status at home andabroad, First of all, analyze the current development situation and problems of westernequipment manufacturing industry. Secondly, Malmquist DEA model is used tomeasure and decompose the equipment manufacturing TFP, analyze the TFP inindustry perspective and region perspective, explore the change trend of TFP, technicalprogress and technical efficiency, understand the development trend and regionaldevelopment characteristics of western equipment manufacturing industry’s TFP. Atlast, Based on the review and research of historical literature, combine thecharacteristics of equipment manufacturing industry, proposed and analyzed the greateight factors that affects the TFP: Industry scale,Industry profitability, R&D, humancapital, foreign trade dependence, the level of opening to the outside world, the processof industrialization and marketization, on this basis, select corresponding index tocalculate these factors, use the fixed effect model and panel data model to study the influence on the TFP, and then analyze it. reveal the main factor that influence thewestern equipment manufacturing industry’s TFP, thus according to the researchconclusion put forward the practical and effective policy recommendations.The analysis results show that, the western equipment manufacturing industry’sTFP and technical efficiency have significant correlation with Industry profitability,Industry scale, foreign trade dependence and marketization, Besides, technologicalprogress still has correlation with R&D, At the end of the article, we put forward somecorresponding policy suggestions for western equipment manufacturing industry.
