Climate change has become one of the most serious challenges which the humanity is facing in the21st century. It poses not only a significant negative impact for the global natural ecosystems, but also a serious threat for the survival and development of human society. At present, the development of low-carbon economy has become the basic way and strategic choice for addressing climate change and ensuring energy security. In low-carbon economic model, china power industry which gives priority to with coal-fired power generation and characters of high carbon emission is facing huge changes in the external environment. The low-carbon economic model will not only change development and management of power enterprises, but also will extensively and profoundly affects all aspects of power system investment, such as planning, scheduling, operation and management. Thus, it is very significant to study how to deal with these external environmental changes and to achieve sustainable development in power companies.This paper separated China’s power generation companies and grid companies, learned from path-goal theory’s research framework, constructed adaptive management structure model for the two types of power enterprises to low-carbon economy by AMOS By exploring four variables in model, namely business leaders and management, the external environment, internal relations and business development performance, the author studied the adaptability of China’s power enterprises to the low carbon economy comprehensively.The results show that the adaptability of China power enterprises to low carbon environment is good on the whole, grid enterprises to adapt to a low-carbon economy is better than that of power generation enterprises; the leader has a great effect on the enterprise to adapt to a low-carbon economy; relative to internal relations, power enterprises pay more attention to the influence of external environment, adapting to changes in the external environment orients to adjust the internal relations; The external environment effects on the development performance of two kinds of enterprises on the contrary. The influence of internal relationships on the development performance of grid enterprise, in contrast, is more than that of the external environment, and power generation companies change with the external environment, that is so say, the external environment of power generation enterprises changes more profoundly and depending on the internal relation does not dominate the development of enterprises. In addition, factors influencing the adaptability of power generation enterprises are mainly industry chain and market environment in the external environment, human resource condition (embodying in the shortage of skilled and experienced talent); Factors influencing the adaptability of grid enterprises are mainly market environment (mainly technology) in the external environment, the condition of internal human resources; knowledge and leadership skills, psychological quality of two types of enterprises’ leader has influence at some extent.
