Study On Changes Of Marriage Consumption In Villages Central China Since Reform And Opening-up

Along with the significant changes of production mode, living habit and perception, marriageconsumption in villages central China has also changed dramatically since reform and opening-up.Especially in the21st century, the general phenomenon in villages central China of high bride price, highmarriage consumption and marriage squeeze increasingly has been one of the hot and difficult problems inrural society. It has seriously affected construction of socialist new countryside and attracted widely andhighly attention from academia. This article selects the author’s hometown Linzhou city D village in Henanprovince as the research object,chooses changes of marriage consumption in villages central China as themain line and applies the methods of questionnaire survey, deep interview and contrast analysis. This paperwill explore the changes of marriage consumption in villages central China since reform and opening-up byinvestigating married couples in different ages in D village and analyzing the diachronic changes ofmarriage consumption in D village. This paper integrates several theories such as sociology, folklore andpolitical science. It especially focus on combining with the study of history of the Communist Party ofChina, such as socialism new countryside construction, the countryside culture construction andconsumption, reasonable guidance of folk habits and party members and cadres exemplary role, to explorethe changes of marriage consumption in villages central China. The main contents of this thesis arefollowing:The first part: briefly introduce the related concepts and basic situation of the survey site, from themain aspects of bride price, dowry, wedding room, wedding banquet and so on to summarize the mainperformance of the marriage payments changes in villages central China since reform and opening-up.The second part: systematically sort out the major problems in marriage consumption in villagescentral China from the following aspects: consumption concept, consumption pattern and consumptionstructure.Deeply analyze the reasons of high marriage consumption from economy, culture, society,psychology and self-building of the party.The third part: explain the positive and negative effects of the high marriage consumption. From thefollowing aspects of personal, family and social society to illustrate the negative effects of the high marriage consumption.The fourth part: make suggestions of promoting the sound development of marriage consumption inrural area from the following aspects: give full play to the government’s cultural function and civil society’sactive role.
