In this paper, the ecological footprint theory and models, were been use to calculate and analyze the ecological footprint and ecological capacity of Guangzhou City, Guangdong Province from2006to2010.Ecological deficits between the reference years were been estimated.Local GDP and ecological deficits were been combined with to analyse the relationship between ecological footprint and GDP. Becasue of fossil resources is harvestless in Guangzhou, the link between energy ecological footprint and economic growth has become the focus of the analysis in the article. Finally, this paper gives some suggestions on sustainable development in Guangzhou City. The result of data which calculated in Guangzhou from2006to2010shows that, the per capita ecological capacity of Guangzhou City was basically stable and the ecological footprint per capita average grew2.31%per annual in this five years. Guangzhou’s per capita ecological footprint was higher than the national average in these years. Land for carbon footprint occupied by the largest proportion, forest land was after carbon footprint land;built-up land, cropland, grazing land and fishing land just held less share in the composition of the six types of ecologically productive land ecological footprint. Ecological deficit is11times than the ecological capacity in Guangzhou. And ecological deficit of carbon footprint land was contributed to this result. Cropland and fishing land have ecological remainder.Analysis of ecological footprint intensity showed that, ecological footprint intensity shows a declining trend accompany with rapid growth of GDP in Guangzhou. EFI of energy declined significantly than other factors. So,a depth analysis of the link between the energy footprint and economic growth was been carried out.In conclusion, Guangzhou City’s development model is unsustainable according to the result of ecological footprint analysis. But the growth of ecological deficit has been released by ptimizing energy consumption and importing ecological capacity.
