Due to its cultural diversity and strategic locale at the crossroads of Central Asia,Xinjiang’s economy has developed very rapidly in recent years. What has spurred onthis recent wave of economic development? How can Xinjiang both maintain andenhance the quality of economic growth? These issues will be explored in this thesis. In this thesis, I use Economic Growth Theory and Institutional InnovationTheory, which includes New Growth Theory, Technology Spillover, CompetitivenessIndex System, TFP Models and Regional Innovation System to explain issuesconcerning Xinjiang’s regional economic development. The research presented in thisthesis not only compares factors attributed to Xinjiang’s recent economic growth butalso predicts potential future growth trends. This thesis also analyzes the influentialmodel and characteristic of Xinjiang’s economic growth caused by technical progressin order to show the trait of area economic growth in the future. In this thesis, I argue the following: First, Xinjiang’s economic growth is relatedwith China’s policies and characters of itself. Second, Xinjiang’s comparativeadvantages of economic growth depend on developing policies and locationalsuperiorities. Third, the main form of technical progress is TFP and stimulation in theprocess of Xinjiang’s economic growth. Fourth, Xinjiang’s technological superioritieslie in mobile technological elements. Fifth, the input of capital and labor play animportant role in Xinjiang’s economic growth. Sixth, Xinjiang still lacks in technicalinput and innovational potentiality. Finally, innovation in the enterprise sector inXinjiang needs to be improved.
