As China’s economy continues to develop, the domestic automobile marketdemand growth, the development of the automotive industry is thriving. At the sametime, competition among car companies are also increasingly intense, and the need toimprove innovation by strengthening their core competitiveness, research anddevelopment activities are an important source of corporate competitiveness, and willdirectly affect the level of R&D project management to successful R&D activitiesor not. But R&D project management and general project management there aresome differences, which has involved numerous departments, process managementcomplex, involving multi-disciplinary knowledge, project team members, and stressedthe importance of the role of complex research and development projects such as thecharacteristics of the person in charge, causing it difficult to manage relatively large,and therefore enhance the R&D project management capability has become animportant issue for business research.In this paper, through our own brand car product development modes andfeatures, as well as model and management status of automotive productdevelopment project management research learned to analyze some of the majorissues which currently exist in the management, including project managementconcepts obsolete, lack of proper project manager selection mechanism to carry outthe project management level is low, the R&D project management lack of integrityand lack of suitable independent automotive R&D project management productmanagement software. On this basis, for product development project managementcapabilities to define and clarify its main elements to identify factors that affectChina’s own brand of automotive products R&D project management capabilities.Re-evaluation of ideas and guidance in accordance with the relevant procedures, theestablishment of independent brand car product development project managementcapability evaluation index system and evaluation model, and SGMW ’s case, its R&D project management capability to collect relevant data, according to the evaluationmodel to evaluate its ability to analysis of the company in the current R&D projectmanagement process exists in the success and shortcomings. Finally, according to theevaluation model constructed above, combined with some of the factors affecting R&D project management capabilities, and ultimately explore specific ways toenhance our own brand of automotive product development project management capabilities, including strategic planning capacity enhancement projects to improveplanning capabilities, processes enhance the management capacity and enhance theability to improve personnel management, knowledge management and performancemanagement capabilities to enhance the capability.In some European countries, modern project management methods have beenwidely used in the automotive R&D project management, and the establishment of asound R&D project management system, and effectively improve the capability ofindependent innovation of enterprises. In China, domestic auto companies in productdevelopment time using modern project management theory is relatively late, so the R&D project management capabilities generally lag behind in research anddevelopment capability, so through this study, one can hope that the rich R&Dproject management theory, on the other hand can provide some reference value forthe independent brand car company’s product research and development projectmanagement.
