With development in technology and advances in management, the marketcompetition environment increasingly becomes complex for enterprises. The applicabilityof classic production operational model "product-process matrix" proposed by Hayes andWheelwright (1979) gradually decreases in the new supply chain environment. Thephenomenon that the enterprise which locates far away from the traditional matching areastill succeeds becomes more and more popular. Consisering the decreasing instructivesignificance of the traditional model, it is very important and imperative to update anddevelop a kind of systematic and practical matching tools to guide the enterprisesoperations effectively.Based on existing improvement research on product-process matrix, this thesis takesthe view of demand-oriented instead of production-oriented and develops a newconceptual matching model. This thesis mainly conducts around the following threeaspects: Firstly, conduct improvements on the two dimensions of product and process, andfully illustrate the positive relationship between flexible process capability and thecustomization level of product. Secondly, explore the positive impact of supply chaincollaboration between stakeholders on the matching between product and process, anddivide the process structure into two dimensions including internal process and externalprocess, which together with the customization level of products constitute a newthree-dimensional matrix. Finally, describe and demonstrate the three propositionsdeveloped in the new model through a specific case study, and prove that in today’s marketenvironment of supply chain as a unit to compete, the supply chain collaboration hasbecome crucial for enterprises to break economic and technical constraints of traditionalmatrix, and also provide strong practical support for the validity of new product-processmatrix in supply chain environment.
