With development of mass customization, manufacturing enterprises need toimplement the agility and flexibility in mass customization, to adjust and improveproduct design and development process to better adapt to the rapidly changing needsof its customers. In order to transform the product from the conceptual stage to finalcustomer, enterprises need to make a series of decisions during product development,production/manufacturing and supply chain management.Product family is mainly form of mass customization. Product family iscomposed of products with similar structure and similar function or process. Makingfull use of product and process modularization and standardization of product familycan help enterprises increase prediction accuracy, short deliver time, reduce inventorycost and transportation cost. It has important influence to supply chain management. At the same time, through product standardization and modularization, productiontechnology and product development process are simplified, comprehensivecompetitiveness is improved. Therefore, it has the important meaning to study theproduct family architecture method combining supply chain management. In this paper, in order to quantify the model of product family architecture andsupply chain collaborative design, first analyzes the relationship between the twofrom a qualitative point of view. Two-dimension models of decision and the structureof are built to help analysis the association, collaborative relationships betweenproduct family architecture decision and supply chain management. Through mappingcollaborative decision making into the structure design, product family architectureand supply chain related design method is formed. After establishing correlation concept model, we further transformed it intoquantitative mathematical optimization model. Using multi-objective optimizationmethod, we decided best product family architecture and the matching supply chainstructure to maximize meeting the needs of different customers while minimizing thecost of supply chain. This paper introduced the genetic algorithm to solve themulti-objective problem. Finally, we described the case of product family architectureand supply chain related design analysis and Optimization in practice.
