| COSL Drilling is the largest offshore drilling contractor in China with itsoperation that covers Chinese water, Southeast Asia, Australia, Middle East, AmericanContinent, North Africa and Northern Europe, among others. After dominating thedomestic market, COSL has begun its global expansion. With cost advantage on itsside, gaining competition in new markets, seeking new clients, as well as maintaininga steady and fast growth have become the biggest challenge for COSL.Globalization of economies, large business globalization trends more pronounced,only grasp these trends, take a global perspective, review the modes of operation andmanagement of enterprises in order to maintain a competitive advantage in the newcompetitive environment of the market, and oilfield service industries in thedevelopment of the oil and gas industry breadth and depth at the same time expandingtoday, also faces opportunities and challenges of transition and growth.This project uses SWOT as analytic procedure. By taking personal experience inCOSL Drilling as an example and using management decision-making tools, theauthor sums up detailed information to analyze the internal resource and externalconditions to build up the SWOT module. To start with, the author demonstrates thestrength and weakness of COSL by analyzing its management, operationalcharacteristics, technical competence and adversaries. Then he follows up by usingPorter’s Five Forces Model to evaluate the analytical results, in order to identify theopportunities and challenges that COSL is facing.At last, system analysis is used based on the Porter’s Diamond Model in order todraw up a countermeasure step by step and to formulate an optimal operation strategyfor COSL’s global expansion. |
