Since China joined WTO, domestic enterprises had been impacted for global corporatesocial responsibility movement inevitably. Chinese government, enterprises and people givemore and more attention to the social responsibility. However, although the consciousnessof the social responsibility of the enterprise is gradually increasing, more and moreenterprises begin to take the initiative to join the ranks of social responsibility. But the lackof corporate social responsibility in our country is very serious, which not only affects thecompetitiveness of Chinese enterprises in the world, the more important thing is harmful tothe sustainable development of China’s economy. The main purpose of this study is todiscuss "why corporate social responsibility", and explore the driving force behind the real.The research is based on institutional theory, the resource based theory and the theoryof business ethics, We sum up6driving forces of corporate social responsibility, and put itinto effect for questionnaire. This study receives a total of192valid questionnaires, anduses the statistical analysis software SPSS19.0to conduct the date processing and empiricalanalysis,and checkout the influence of the6factors on CSR.The main findings of this study have three points. First, the external systemenvironment plays a significant role in promoting CSR. Laws and regulations which hasbeen widely accepted industry or social group limit the enterprise management, andenterprises can not fully comply with the principle of maximizing their own interests.Second, the enterprise leader’s value and their identity to social responsibility is thefundamental driving force for corporate social responsibility. Only the enterprise leadershave the identity with the corporate social responsibility is valuable, meaningful,enterprises will take social responsibility into business strategy, and seriously implement.Third, many Chinese enterprises especially small and medium enterprises do not agree withcorporate social responsibility can bring differentiated competitive advantage for theenterprise. So in the formulation of business strategy, leaders of enterprises will notconsider corporate social responsibility too much.The innovation of this research lies in three aspects. First, this study focus on the frontof corporate social responsibility, search the driving factors of the CSR. Previous studiesmostly take the corporate social responsibility as dependent variable, research the impact oncorporate financial performance, this study will take the corporate social responsibility as the dependent variable, to explore its driving factors. This study will enrich the field oncorporate social responsibility from two aspects of theory and empirical. Second, the studysums up6driving corporate social responsibilities’ factors. And through the questionnairesurvey method, we collect empirical data. Then we use the statistical analysis softwareSPSS19.0to conduct the date processing and empirical analysis, verify the direction andstrength of driving factors on corporate social responsibility. Third, we put forwardseveral suggestions based on the results from this study, in order to promote corporatesocial responsibility.
