As a modern human resources management tool, performance management hasmade outstanding contributions to the development and enhancing thecompetitiveness of enterprises. However, with the continuous development ofeconomy and society, the theory of performance management has been controversialin the process of raising the level of enterprise performance management and solvingthe practical problems. How to promote the enterprise performance management levelhas become an eternal topic.Since the80’s of20th century, with the concept of performance management hasbeen become more and more popular in China, foreign advanced methods ofperformance of management have been introduced into China Enterprises. In thiscontext, Bank Of China as one of the four state-owned commercial banks hasestablished a perfect performance management system, which has played an importantrole in supporting the operation and development of enterprises. However, with theincreasing pressure of business management, in the process of performancemanagement of Bank Of China, some problems must be solved have been exposed,such as staff appraisal paralysis caused by performance appraisal index of tedious, thereduction of the staff’s enthusiasm for work caused by income differences, thecontradiction of short-term development and long-term development in the productpricing model and so on. Based on the institutions’ performance management systemof Bank Of China HanDan Branch as the research object, this paper analyzes thecurrent situation of institutions’ performance management of Bank Of China HanDanBranch, points out the prominent problems existing in the performance management,starting from the basic theory and method of performance management, put forwardthe improvement scheme of the performance management and the suggestionscombined with the case related to the performance management of domestic andforeign commercial banks.This paper consists of seven chapters. The first chapter is introduction, whichbriefly describes the background and significance, ideas and methods of this research.The second chapter introduces the basic theory of performance management, whichincludes the meaning of performance and performance management, the characteristics of performance management, the differences between the performancemanagement and performance appraisal, the main methods of performancemanagement. The third chapter introduces the present situation of performancemanagement of domestic and foreign commercial banks. The fourth chapterintroduces the present situation of performance management and points out theexisting problems of Bank Of China HanDan Branch combined with the actual work.The fifth chapter introduces the innovation and attempts that Bank Of China HanDanBranch to improve performance management system. The sixth chapter is theimprovement of performance management and suggestions of Bank Of ChinaHanDan Branch. The seventh chapter summaries the full text and puts forward hopefor performance management of state-owed banks.In this paper, the author makes an empirical study on the institutions’performance management system of Bank Of China HanDan Branch, at the same time,he points out the suggestions with the actual work for improvement which havecertain reference significance on the performance management of domesticcommercial banks.
