Under current economic environment, each enterprise faces serious situation andwants to shorten the production cycle, reduce inventory cost, and increase profit sothat they would quickly capture the market. In the past decades, people had donemuch research such problems, but they mainly concentrated on the research of somealgorithms, which practicality are not be useful. And value stream mapping is aneffective method to achieve this goal. In this paper, according to research theassembly of gear motor, we carry simulation experiment, using value stream mappingand DMAIC management model to optimize assembly. As follows:First of all, the approach encompasses an analysis of the current state of theengineering process and the proposal of a lean future state value stream mapping(VSM). The current state analysis includes the definition of the problems, analysis ofcurrent customer demands. According to the definition, we can distinguish productionactivities of value-added activities, and non-value added activities. Secondly, we useindustrial process analysis, work content analysis and motion theory in order to findthe key problem. Finally, we use ECRS analysis to optimize process and layout andworktable. After the experiment, we have some comparison with previous data. Results from the VSM show that the value-added ratio of the current engineeringprocess increased from21%to38%and production cycle time is shorten by nearly50%. In a word, we find a best plan. The plan can improve overall competitiveness. Then we can not only make anoptimization scheme to provide the practical experience for S company, but also theplan can play an important role for the future development of gear motor...
