A Study On The Influence Of Technology Innovation On The Export Sophistication Of China’s High Technology Products

In 2003, Hausmann first proposed the concept of exports sophistication, it provided a new perspective for the research of the international trade. The initial stage of this study’s main focus is the construction of measurement methods, then, it progressively transferred to the empirical analysis of the impact on the influence factors and the reasons for the changes. As the study time is still short, the theoretical framework of the research in the academia for a single factor affecting on a specific product has not yet form, which makes the empirical research unpersuasive in the absence of theoretical base.As we all know, the high technology industry is a high value-added, high technology industry and high investment industry. It is more necessary to analysis the impact of the technology innovation on the exports sophistication of the high technology product than the traditional industries. Huang xianhai (2010) indicated that the two major power for the increase of the exports sophistication is the driving force of economic growth and export growth. Combining with the concepts of the exports sophistication, this article learns from the research of Huang xianhai and builts the direct and indirect paths for the effect of the technology innovation to the exports sophistication of the high technology product.On the basis the analysis of the mechanism, this article statistically analysis on the four high technology products of the 25 provinces froml995 to 2011 and show thatthere are regional differences in China’s level of the technology innovation and the exports sophistication. In addition, the R&D internal expenditure, the number of patents and the exports sophistication of the electronic and communications equipment manufacturing are higher than the other high technology products on the mean level of 17 years.After the mechanism analysis and statistically analysis, we forecast that there is a positive impact on the technical innovation through direct and indirect paths for the high technology products1 export sophistication and the empirical evidence verifies this conclusion. The results of the empirical analysis shows that:R&D internal expenditure within the influence of various high technology products in the decreasing order of pharmaceutical manufacturing, electronics and communications equipment manufacturing, medical equipment and instrumentation manufacturing and computer and office equipment industry. The number of patents on the high technology products in the decreasing order of computer and office equipment manufacturing, pharmaceutical manufacturing, electronics and communications equipment manufacturing, and medical equipment and instrumentation manufacturing. In addition, the technological innovation impacts on the export sophistication of the pharmaceutical manufacturing is stronger through the economic growth than through the export grow. The technological innovation impacts on the export sophistication of the communications equipment manufacturing and the medical equipment and instrumentation manufacturing is stronger through the export growth than through the economic growth. The technological innovation impacts on the export sophistication of the computer and office equipment manufacturing is stronger throgh the economicth or the export growth can not be determined.Based on the results of the above analysis, this paper concludes with some corresponding recommendations, such as promoting the sustained, rapid and healthy development of the economy, accelerating the pace of transformation and upgrading of the foreign trade; the high-tech enterprises to increase the R&D investment, to strengthen the learning from the international business, to provide a better working environment; the local governments to develop the more perfect strategy for the development of the high-tech industrial and create a favorable policy environment for the enterprises.
